August 25th: Düsseldorf to Cheyenne

It was a long day.  Twenty five hours from getting up to arriving at our motel in Cheyenne. The flight to London was nice and easy thanks to having, somehow, booked business class. Tanja enjoyed the window seat and a good clear view over London city. Changing from terminal 5 to terminal 3 at Heathrow proved rather awkward because the bike cases on the trolley didn’t fit through many of the doors so we had to unload and reload many times. Fortunately, despite arriving 5 hours ahead of our Denver flight, we were able to check in the cases, which made life a lot easier. Finally, after extensive and repeated security checks, we were on our way to Denver in a fully loaded jumbo. I haven’t been on a jumbo for about 20 years and I wouldn’t mind if I never went on one again. I’ll settle for an Airbus any day of the week. Once in Denver things went smoothly and we were through immigration and on the bus to Avis in good time. Fortunately, the Ford Fusion we had picked was just big enough to take the bike cases and bags so by 8pm we were on our way  and by 10pm we had reached our motel in Cheyenne. If there had been a bar within 10 yards I would have had a beer but there wasn’t so we collapsed into bed for an early night.

Der erste Flug von Düsseldorf nach London verlief reibungslos. Es gab leckeres Frühstück und eine tolle Aussicht aus dem Flugzeug. In London angekommen, mussten wir mit unserem Gepäck eine kleine Weltreise zurücklegen, um unser Terminal zu erreichen, was gar nicht so einfach war, weil die Fahrräder auf dem Wagen nur durch jede zweite Tür passten und wir immer wieder abladen mussten. Das Gepäck konnten wir zum Glück direkt wieder aufgeben und dann hieß es warten.

Der Flug von London nach Denver erschien endlos und freuten uns darauf, uns endlich wieder ein bisschen bewegen zu können. Nach den notwendigen Einreiseritualen konnten wir zum Glück das gesamte Gepäck wieder in Empfang nehmen. Eine Sorge weniger… Ein Shuttle brachte uns zur Autovermietstation, wo wir einen Ford Escape in Empfang nehmen konnten. Von da aus brauchten wir dann etwa zwei Stunden nach Cheyenne, wo wir nur noch müde ins Bett fielen.
