Sept. 6th: Visitors Arrive in Munich

I did sleep well after an evening in town and still managed to be up shortly after 6 to catch the bus to the station. John was due to land at 7:15 so I wanted to be there in good time but nearly didn’t make it because, when my train arrived, so many people got off and walked past me, that when there was space for me to step forward, the doors shut in my face. Too polite see. I should have pushed my way through. I had to wait for the next train. Anyway, I was there, in terminal 1, waiting for John when he came through baggage claim and then we both had to get over to terminal 2 to wait for Mark. He arrived on time and then it was off to the S-Bahn followed by a bus and a walk to the hotel. After checking in and lunch we had to unpack and build their bikes back together and, with that done, they were ready for an evening in Munich. The first job was to find a sports shop to get a gas canister for John’s cooker and then, after looking around Marienplatz, it was off to, of course, the Hofbraeuhaus and the inevitable litre glasses of beer.

We stood waiting for the Glockenspiel until somebody told us we would have to wait until 11am the next day.

It was very busy and very loud with the band playing…….

but it didn’t stop us getting a beer and a huge pretzel to share.

From there it was back to Marienplatz for a snack and then train, bus and a walk back to the hotel. I was ready for bed. I reckon, in two days, I must have walked more than in the last two months and used more trains and buses than in the last ten years.
